Art Nouveau Botanical Table Lamp

£29.95

There’s something rather nice about old botanical illustrations. Before photography became commonplace, artists would spend hours carefully drawing flowers and plants, capturing every little detail of the petals, leaves and stems. Some of those illustrations are hundreds of years old, but they still look just as good today.

That was the thinking behind this Art Nouveau Botanical Table Lamp. I wanted something that had the feel of a traditional botanical illustration, but with a cleaner, more contemporary look.

The design features large, delicate flowers in soft pink, blue and golden yellow, with gently curving stems and leaves in muted shades of green. There’s a definite Art Nouveau influence in the flowing lines and natural shapes, but I’ve kept the background white rather than filling every available space with detail.

I think that makes quite a difference. The flowers have room to stand out, and the whole design feels light and uncluttered. It’s quite a contrast to some of my more elaborate woodland and wildlife lights.

When you switch the lamp on, the white background takes on a lovely soft glow, illuminating the flowers without overpowering their colours. The fine lines in the petals remain visible, giving the whole thing the appearance of a botanical illustration printed onto a softly glowing surface.

I particularly like how this botanical table lamp looks in front of a mirror, where you get to see more of the flowers wrapping around the cylinder.

And because it’s rechargeable, you’re not restricted to putting it near a power socket. I can imagine this one looking particularly good on a dressing table, a bedroom chest of drawers or a shelf alongside a few plants. You can move it around whenever you fancy a change, without having to worry about trailing cables.

A full charge gives around 12 hours or more of use, so a couple of hours charging every few days should keep you going nicely.

The included remote control lets you choose from 13 LED colours and five brightness levels. You can also set the light to slowly fade through the colours, or use the 30 and 60 minute timers to switch it off automatically. Personally, I think the white and warmer settings suit this design particularly well.

At around 23cm tall, this Art Nouveau floral lamp is large enough to show off the detail in the flowers without taking up too much room.

I think this one would appeal to anyone who likes botanical art, floral designs or the softer side of Art Nouveau. It’s decorative without being too fussy, and looks just as good switched off as it does illuminated.

Sometimes a few flowers and a bit of space around them are all you need.

The shade is 3D printed using PLA, a plant-based plastic commonly made from corn starch. I then print the artwork directly onto the surface using my UV printer, giving the finished light its colour and detail.

The original artwork for this design was created with the assistance of AI and then used as part of my process to create the finished light. Each light is personally made and finished by me.
