Moon Gazing Fox

£24.95

I think the fox is one of those animals that just belongs in a slightly magical setting. So for Moon Gazing Fox, I wanted to create something that feels like you’ve stumbled across a little world that carries on quite happily when nobody is looking.

The fox sits beneath the trees looking up into the night sky, surrounded by glowing lights, woodland flowers and toadstools. Follow the picture around the light and the woodland opens out into waterfalls, a moonlit mountain landscape and a tiny village tucked away amongst the trees. There are lots of little details to find, which is one of the things I particularly like about this design.

I 3D print the cylinder in white PLA first, then use my UV printer to add the artwork directly onto the surface. It means this fox night light is colourful and detailed even when it’s switched off. Turn it on, though, and all those little lanterns, windows and points of light start to glow. The fox almost looks as though he’s being lit by the fireflies around him.

Because the picture wraps all the way around the cylinder, there’s no real front and back. Turn your Moon Gazing Fox night light around and you’ll find a different part of the scene. I particularly like the little illuminated village and bridge on the other side – it feels like somewhere the fox might be heading once he’s finished staring at the moon.

It’s rechargeable too, so you’re not tied to a plug socket. Keep it on a bedside table, move it onto a shelf for the evening or carry it into another room when you want a bit of gentle light. A full charge gives around 12 hours or more of use, so a couple of hours charging every few days should keep you going nicely.

The remote control gives you 13 LED colours and five brightness levels, or you can let it slowly fade through the colours. There are also 30 and 60 minute timers, which are handy if you’re using it as a bedside night light and want it to switch itself off after you’ve fallen asleep.

At around 23cm tall, Moon Gazing Fox is large enough to really show off the detail without taking up a lot of space.

I think this one works particularly well as a woodland night light. There’s plenty going on when you look closely, but from across the room it’s simply a warm little pool of light with a fox sitting quietly in the middle of it all.

Definitely one of my favourites so far.
