Ok, the first thing to say with this is that no sea urchins were harmed making this sea urchin mood lamp. Generally, sea urchins are a creature that is close to being endangered. There are lots of concerns over the way that they’re harvested for food and home decor, often with them being just left to die before their shells are taken to make you an ornament for your bathroom.
These sea urchin mood lamps are the exact opposite of that. They’re made from PLA, a cornstarch, natural material that can be recycled, composted or incinerated to provide energy. If it’s incinerated, it leaves no residue and there are no harmful chemicals released into the atmosphere.
Anyway, back to the mood lamp. Your sea urchin mood lamp has a white body with a textured surface and “bumps” which, in real life, would have been where the spines grew from. Ok, this is a representation of a sea urchin as the bumps would usually be much more random. But it definitely captures the essence of a sea urchin.
The shell is think enough that the low energy LED unit inside provides a decent amount of illumination. You’re probably not going to be doing your needlepoint by this but I’d say it’s good enough to read by if you had this as a bedside lamp, and certainly good enough in your bathroom to provide a nice calming, ambient light if you want to relax in the bath with some bubbles.
The lamp is around 150mm in diameter at its widest and 120mm tall so it’ll fit in anywhere in your home without much problem. Being rechargeable, you can take it anywhere, even if you have no mains socket nearby, and there are no cables to worry about. A 2 hour charge with the included USB-C cable will see you good for at least 10 hours before it needs a top up.
Included with your lamp is a handy remote control to set the brightness and colour (13 colours including white) of the light, adjust the brightness, set the light to fade or flash through all the colours or set a timer to turn the light off automatically after 30 or 60 minutes.
