This dragon scales mood lamp was a bit of an experiment but I really like it. I wanted something that looked like dragon scales, which this kind of does. But it’s also come out a bit Art Deco which I also really like.
I’ve picked the green as the main image because it has an other worldly luminous quality about it but it looks just as good in the white, warm white or even pink.
Like a lot of my lights, this is a cylindrical design with the pattern wrapping all the way around it. It’s just over 200mm tall and about 90mm in diameter. The light source is a rechargeable LED unit in the bottom of the cylinder and the top is open to allow it to cast more light into the area where the lamp is placed. Being rechargeable means that it can be placed anywhere around your home without having to worry about the nearest mains socket or having wires trailing around. A 2 hour charge is enough to keep the lamp running for between 10 and 16 hours depending on the colour you choose. You do this using the included remote control which also allows you to control the brightness, set the lamp to fade or flash through all 13 colours, and to set a timer to turn the light off after 30 or 60 minutes.
The main body of the light is made from an eco-friendly material called PLA which is cornstarch so it’s biodegradable. Even if it ends up being incinerated for power, it leaves no residue and there are no harmful chemicals leaked into the environment.
