Lithophane Lights Gallery

This is a collection of just some of the lights that I’ve put together recently.  These are all lithophane type lights meaning that they use material that’s been 3D printed at different thicknesses from 0.8mm up to 3.2mm.  The different thicknesses allow different amounts of light through to give light and shade.

The effect is truly magical.  Sometimes you can get an idea when the light is off.  Sometimes, it just looks like a randomly patterned cylinder.  Turn it on and the detail is revealed.  It’s like a black and white image hs been created in front of your eyes.  But, more than an image, you can see the texture from the 3D print so the image really stands out depending on which angle you look at the cylinder from.

I love doing these.  They take anything up to 14 hours each to print.  The sense of anticipation when the print finishes and I fit the light ready to turn on for the first time is addictive.
